Mount Emei is one of the four holy mountains of Buddhism in China. Standing at 3,099 meters above sea level, Mount Emei is well known for its unmatched scenery and religious heritage. It has earned many accolades including “The Buddhist Mountain”, “the Kingdom of Plants” and “Museum of Geology”. At 30 kilometers north east of Mount Emei, the Leshan Giant Buddha stood by the riverbank of Min River. At 71 meters in height, the Giant Buddha is among the tallest Buddha statues in the world. Mount Emei and Leshan Giant Buddha were inaugurated as World Heritage Sites in December of 1996.
